Neil has looked after the continuance of this important publication for a number of years and the Society owes him a debt of gratitude. In my first edition I have tried to give the magazine a new look, both in terms of content and appearance, whilst hold- ing true to its traditional aspects. Adopting a series of distinct sections, I have looked to provide lively Feature articles on general cricket topics; an Archive section allows us to tap into the Society’s rich history; a Review section contains the all-important account of last winter’s speaker meetings for those members unable to attend; the review of our winter coaching ; as well as book reviews . All the annual reports of the Society’s affairs, various notices and the membership list are gathered into the final section, called The Wombwell Register . Each section is colour coded to help you to find your way around. Going to full colour is an important step in the magazine’s development, as is the work of a talented team of young graphic designers to give it a new look. These changes are part of a plan to make the magazine an even more compelling ‘shop-window’ for the Society. Having the Feature section up-front is a deliberate choice to broaden the appeal of the magazine to a wider audience, leading onto the idea of having a theme for the magazine. To coincide with a new book by John Fuller about the Cricket Festival, we have adopted Scarborough, a much-loved place for many Society members, as this year’s theme. As well as an article written specially for us by John, there are some personal reflections from me in My love of cricket…at Scarborough. The My love of cricket… articles are in- tended to become a regular item in future editions, hearing from members about their own personal slant on the game we love. We hear from Margaret Brayshaw this year. Two of our winter speakers have also provided Feature items. Richard Damms gives a deeper insight into the work of the Yorkshire Academy, whilst George Dobell provides a thought-provoking view that cricket lovers need to find a voice.
