Wombwell Cricket Lovers' Society
The Wombwell Cricket Lovers’ Society was founded in 1951 and a few years later The Twelfth Man Magazine appeared for the first time and has been published in every year since then. In a society with over 300 members who are dispersed all over the UK and abroad the magazine is an important way of keeping members informed about society activities through the past year. The society has attracted many distinguished visitors over the years and this is chronicled faithfully in each edition. The magazine has undergone many changes over the years under various editors, as the archive will reveal. At one time it carried advertisements - which can be an interesting snapshot in themselves - as a way of defraying costs, but in the modern era with businesses looking to reach wider audiences advertising is now omitted; the cost of production is accepted as an integral part of running the society for the benefit of members.
