Aeerf,mgtoxn Cnilcke'fi Club J[ume L997 NewsXetter RESULTS & PERFORMANCES The 2nd Xl went out of the Junior Cup in a blaze of glory at Lowerhouse. ln scoring 284 the team created a new Club 2nd Xl record. Sajed Sadiq scored 93 to eam promotion to the 1 st Xl. The game looked beyond recall until Sajed was joined firstty by Adam Greenwood and then by Joe Stewart when partnerships of 101 & 52 gave a glimmer of hope but it was not to be. Duncan McCormack scored his maiden half century against Ralvtenstall for the 3rd Xl who registered their first win of the seasoR at home to Church. The A Team are currenfly top of the Accrington & District League having won their first 5 matches. They are also in the semi final of the Harry Wood Cup with a game against Attock at Wilsons on Sunday 13th July. Tom Pendergast has so far taken 24 wickets at 5.2 each, notching his 250th wicket in the Iocal league for the Club in the process. JUNIOR CRICKET The Under 'l 1 A side is currently riding high in their league with 2'wins in J games. Men of the match have been Martin Bradshaw, v Ramsboftom Patrick Swanney v Rishton & Graham Sneddon vs Todmorden Other regular players are Mark Addison, Sam Heap, Stuart Crabtree, Daniel Bagshaw & Daniel lNhittaker. Whilst the B side have lost all their first three matches, they are improving. Consisting of mainly 9 & 10 year olds, it's players include Adam Donnelly, Paul Cross, Matthew Blockeel and Chris & Shaun Dunne. The under 13's have played 6 games so far and are still looking for their first win. The bowling is quite good but they are going to have to learn to keep their wickets intact in order to win games. The basis of the team is J Hayhurst, R Addison, R Chaplow, J Pilkington, N Hussain, S Sadiq with the rest being made up from D Gaynor, M Addison, M Young, R Khan & K Fearon. Playing County Cricket for Nottinghamshire was considered to be an important career move which would have been difficult to deny. Whilst the Club has received compensation, he will undoubtedly be missed by players & supporters. ARRI\/ALS & DEPARTURES The one important arrival this month is that of Peter Sleep. Parents ofourjunior mernbers mayremember Peter's aryrouncement at last years Junior presentation evening that he would be Accrington's professional in 19971 After a few twists and tums we have fmally got our man. We wish Peter success for the rest of the season. He is ofcourse no stranger to the Lancashire League having previously been professiooal for East Lancs in 1979 and Rishton in 1990, 1991 (when he created a new league batting record of 162l nms), 1994 and 1995. Now Lancs 2nd Team cap- tain & coach, he now lives in fushton. We are sure Peter's class will soon start to rub offon the players and help to improve results.
