Accrin n Cricket Club l{ewsletter A ril 1999 PROFESSIONAI, Welcome to our new professional, Mark Bailey (see photo on Notice Board), who will be residing in Sparth Road during the summer with his wife Shirley. Mark is the Club's fourthNew Zealandpro', following David Stead(1981), Dipak Patel(1992) and Nathan Astle(1997), He is also our third pro' to be called Bailey, following Jim (1936 - 38) and David (1e71). GRAHAM LLOYD Graham has kindly donated two sets of his England shirts and shorts as Raffle Prizes Tickets will be on sale until the draw which will probably be after the home match against Haslingden on May 2nd, depending on ticket sales. RESULTS The 3rd Xl got off to a winning start at Haslingden on April llth. Their other two fixtures were rained off. The Under 17's , captained this season by Wayne Roberts, also got off to a winning start at the expense of Haslingden, who were unable to raise a team. John Bradshaw's Under 13's were beaten in their eup game at Darwen on Friday, April 16th. The A Team, who begin their league programme on May 23rd,marktime with a friendly at Waddington on Sunday, May 2nd. JUNIqR CRICKET Junior Practice is again on Wednesday evenings this year.The Club are aiming to support each group with two coaches. We are in need of players to strengthen the Under 15 squad. Ifyou know ofany Year 9 or 10 pupils who are interested please invite them down to Junior Practice or contact Alven Burrows (234897). All Junior Fixtures are in the Club Membership book, apart from some cup matches. MERCHANDISE Duncan Warburton is now taking orders for cricket sweaters in club colours.The new Lancashire League ties, priced at f5 can also be obtained from Duncan. New club pens are also available for only 50 pence. DEYELOPMENT A pre feasibility study is to be conducted by consultants KKP as the next step in the development of the Main Project.There will be a shorter walk for spectators who wish to go to the toilet during the game from now on, following the building of a new toilet block on the site of the old outside loos down by the side of the Clubhouse. To date there are no plans to have an official opening of the new building. SUBS-CRIPTIONS Are now due and are eagerly anticipated. Please pay your subs as soon as possible. BUILDING FUND Donations are still being received for the repair work. An acknowledgement to all contributors will be on display during the Season in The Clubhouse. WALTER STUBBS Since the 1999 Club Membership book went to print , Walter has become a Patron. Along with his wife Alice, Walter is again sponsoring a match ball this season, against Colne on Safurday August 7th. FORTHCOMING EVENTS The Annual Treasure Hunt will be held on Sunday May 9th from 1Oam at the Club, ending at a mystery destination. As always it promises to be great fun. Dont miss it. LADIES Do you want to start a cricket team ? Watch this space if you do. WARRE,N HEGG A cricket bat, in aid of Warren Hegg's benefit is to be raffied at fl per space from behind the bar. PUBLICATIONS Lancashire League Handbook sales should be high again this year with the new rule changes. The first 1999 edition of League Cricket Review, featuring an article on the Club, is on sale behind the bar.Golden Moments is also still available.
