Accrin n Cricket Club I{ewsletter A pril 2000 CJtairman Peter Barrutt writes: Accrington Cricket Club established in 1846 and here we are in the Millennium Year 2000, let's hope that it is a special year for the club. We have had a few difficult years, but hopefully this will be the turning point. We welcome back to the club Nathan Astle, the NewZealand Test player, who this time is accompanied by his new wife Kelly. Congratulations to them on their marriage on April 8th this year. I wish each of our captains and their teams the best of luck, I have already seen our 3rd XI convincingly beat Bumley and Colne, so come on lads keep going, let's have plenty of spirit and back the Professional up in everything he does. We need many functions and full support from all players and members in order to pay our way. Please come forward and put your thoughts into action and don't just think it, come and do it.Any help is always welcome. I would like thank the people who have already been working hard to get the club into good shape for the start of the season. There is still plenty to do, but it's all about manpower and the expense which goes up each year, hence the rise in subscriptions. Please pay as early as you can this year. I am sure you will be pleased to visit the Tea Room Ladies this year. Much work has been done in there and they are ready to serve you with the best food in the League. You will also be able to follow the scores more easily this year thanks to the newly painted scorebox. We are aware of the need to improve the entrance to the club and the access road, but it is difficult because the road belongs to the County Council. Please be patient with us. We are trying our best but the weather has been against us. Finally thanks to all our sponsors for their continued support. If anyone can go around and get more? please come forward. Don't forget the Treasure Line run by Alven Burrows and of course the Social Club and the events during the year. A full report of ths A.G.M. along with the Balance Sheets are available at the Bar. Best regards Peter Barratt - Chairman WALTER STUBBS Walter is again sponsoring a match ball this season, against Lowerhouse on August 13th. THE SOCIAL SCENE Jim McCormack's 'Ard Quiz Nights have made a return in recent weeks.
