Dublin University Cricket Club Programme 2013

Him and Her Indoors THIS year, for the first time in a good many years, Trinity entered both Mens and Ladies teams into the Indoor cham- pionships hosted in Galway by NUIG. Both teams traveled down to Galway on the Wednes- day night and had a much needed team bonding ses- sion in the hostel and elsewhere on Eyre Square. Ably captained by Finbarr O'Halloran, the men's team were drawn in a group of seasoned indoor teams with NUIG, DIT, IT Carlow, ITT and RCSI, while the Ladies, with Alanna Jayne Clarke at the helm, faced stiff competition from Queen's, Sligo, GMIT, DCU and NCI. Assisted by good performances from Vishnu Monahan and Laurence Kench- ington the men defeated Carlow and Tallaght to reach the quarter finals. The ladies were unlucky not to win a game but posted impressive scores thanks to great performances from, among oth- ers, Jenny Gray and Jessica Kingston. With a semi-final at stake themenwere unfortunate to lose to GMIT in spite of good per- f o rma n ce s with bat and ball, with NUI- G the eventual winners of the tournament. While the results were s om ew h a t disappointing by our lofty standards the tournament was immensely enjoyable and has hopefully set the stage for a return to winning ways in the outdoor competi- tion, the final of which will be held in College Park this June. Andrew Keane Crucial role for the Second XI THIS season is going to be a very exciting season for the seconds. With a rejuve- nated ideals of success emanating around the club and the desire to bring the three senior teams closer together it is the seconds who must, and will take the lead. We have a fantastic squad assembled, with some very experienced players providing the basis for a team that will most likely revolve around many 1st/2nd years who have just come into the team. The boys have been putting the hard work into training all year, with sessions with Trent Johnston (Huge thank you to Rob Gorvin and Nick Royle for this) proving very helpful and improvements al- ready being seen. From my part I am very excited for the season to come. I think that with the players we have in the selection we have the ability to go through the season undefeated and I have every intention of achieving that. I have some very experienced and reliable players who are ready and willing to sort me out when I go off the rails! I am very much so anticipating working with the bunch of guys we have hard working and talented, but most importantly… let's make this season a serious bit of craic this year! Finbarr O’Halloran
