Dublin University Cricket Club Programme 2013

WOMEN’S FIRST XI WITH the help of our superb coach, the team is training hard for the new season. With the addition of some new members, we are ex- cited to get out onto the pitch and bowl out a few opponents! Our big event so far this year has been the Intervarsities in NUIG in January. Although we didn't get a win under our belts there where a huge amount of positives that came out of the few days. For a team who had had only one practice session together, we had a very similar net run rate to IT Tallaght who had been playing together consistently for the last few months. I also think it’s fair to say that we were all very nervous to begin with and took some painful whacks to the body and face, but no one walked off or gave up! We had players who started with very little cricket confidence scor- ing their own PBs and hitting 6s against really tough bowlers. Our first game was against GMIT who went on to win the tournament, so there was no shame in getting our lowest total against them. We proceeded to get consistently better with every game (14, 42, 61, 68, 89) and taking more and more wickets every time as well. Two things of historical note: * We were the first ever ladies team to play in Intervarsities. * There has been a total of four Irish representatives ever to play in the competition and Jennifer Gray and Shauna Kavanagh were ours! Our very supportive coach, Amy Kenealy was a great help to us. It was a fantastic few days and I hope that we will be able to participate again next year!
