Dunstall CC Annual Report 2010

Chairman’s Report 2010 2010 was the 50 th anniversary of the re-formation of Dunstall Cricket Club and it was entirely appropriate that year saw the Club develop many new ideas and strategies. For several years the Club has recognised the significance of young cricketers coming through the junior ranks and moving into senior cricket. It is an aspiration of the Club to produce Premiership cricketers from its own resources rather than relying upon attracting established cricketers from other clubs. So this year saw the Club entering a 4 th XI into the Derbyshire League to provide our younger players with an introduction to senior cricket. Marshalled by Under 13 coaches John Jennings Senior and Lee Mason, this new team prospered beyond all expectations. 13 year old Lewis Mason’s achievement in becoming the youngest player in Derbyshire to take a five wicket haul is a fitting testimony to their efforts. Unfortunately the proposed anniversary Ball did not take place as a result of logistical problems but there were plenty of other events over the year that demonstrated the diversity of the Club. We adopted NSPCC as the Club’s nominated charity and a variety of events raised an eventual donation of almost £2000. We continued to progress girls cricket and were rewarded by Charlotte Edwards the England captain coming to Dunstall to deliver a day’s coaching that the 40 girls who attended will never forget. The Ladies Day competition was well supported and we have several Mums indicating that they want to play more cricket next year. Our junior cricketers played indoor competitions throughout the winter with great success. The spread of cricket at this Club at all levels continues to expand and we try and keep pace by ensuring that we continue to support coaches achieve ECB qualification. Increased participation brings problems with it. Perhaps the most pressing is how to accommodate so many games. Geoff Shilton, John Jennings and Chris Dytham continue to overwork themselves in keeping both our Dunstall and Rangemore grounds in tip-top condition but they need help and we may have to consider additional ground space. As the Club continues to grow we need help in other directions. Scorers are in short supply and the Club needs members to come forward and help out. Courses can always be arranged. We are so grateful to all of those who have sponsored the Club in either a corporate capacity or as Vice Presidents. Our sponsors are named elsewhere and we hope that you will continue to give us your support. It is impossible to thank everyone. So many helpers got involved at the Club this year; the numerous tea ladies, coaches, event organisers, scorers. The list goes on. It is a reflection on the club’s progress that so many are now involved. Thank you everyone. We look to consolidate at every level in 2011. The signs are very encouraging. Andrew Mandleberg
