Dunstall CC Annual Report 2010

thought it may have been a little early for some, but I was proved wrong. The balance that John Jennings Snr and Lee Mason were able to create was exactly right for this level and for the youngsters. The team would consist of four adults and seven juniors, and to John and Lee’s credit this worked time after time. The youngsters were given the opportunity to perform, with support (and driving!) provided by older hands. I really believe that the opportunities these youngsters are getting give them an excellent start in senior cricket. It didn’t go unnoticed that neighbours and local rivals Lullington claimed the Premier league crown. This was reward for many years effort in building a strong junior section and letting it progress naturally into the senior teams. From our perspective, the fact that a local club with a similar model to ourselves can triumph gives us a belief that the club is moving in the right direction and in the next few years we can emulate their feat. I want to thank those of you that work behind the scenes to help us in many different ways. We are now a big club and the amount of cricket played is greater than ever. This has also meant that more groundwork is needed, as well as more teas, more scorers, more administration, more coaches amongst others – it is very much appreciated by myself and the other players. Finally, this season will also be our first for some time without Alan Hill. Personally, Alan has provided me with continued support in many ways, and for that I am extremely grateful. However, his contribution to the club as a whole and the way the club now runs has been much greater. He leaves us with a secure platform to build on, with many coaches capable of taking up expanding roles, and many individuals benefiting from his exceptional coaching. Martin Clewley
