Dunstall Season by Season Match Diary
Dunstall Cricket Club – THROUGH THE YEARS : MATCH INDEX Page 152 of 345 Date Home Team Away Team Notes This was regarded as the closest battle of the whole season - Reaching 175-8 in 50 overs Dunstall had to bowl tightly to claim the draw! Choosing to bat first, runs were “hard to come by” and Dunstall were reeling at 902 having lost Shaw and M Benstead. Thereafter J Benstead and Stuart Eustace rebuilt moving the score to 83 in the 32 nd over, when Eustace was run out. Devon Malcom played another cameo innings (26 off 11 balls) and then Steve Scrimshaw combined with Benstead for a partnership of 30. Benstead was out on 73 on the final ball of the innings. Devon Malcolm and Alan Gough started the defence economically to leave the home side on 60-4 after 20 overs. As in previous game a young debutant (this time 15 YO James Grice) bowled well but had no reward. So as Duffield threatened to achieve the target, James Benstead bowled 9 overs picking up 3 wickets for 32 meaning at 118-8 off 38 overs the balance had swung in favour of Dunstall, but the next two batters batted sensibly and eventually saw Duffield to the close on 166-8. 04/09/2004 Dunstall 132 - 9 Spondon 129 - 10 Dunstall - Won Batting Second Spondon innings: B Ashdown 52, J Kellogg 54, Malcolm 4-27, Chilman 4-32 Dunstall innings: M Benstead 46*, J Ashdown 5-46, McFadyean 3-44 An inexperienced team toiled against a Spondon team, themselves seeking promotion.
