Sheffield Cricket Lovers' Society Year Book 2012

17 Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society with four minutes to go. Favourite moment of the season in retrospect Gary Keedy running out Gemall Hussain of Somerset. It was a vital moment on that last day and what it led to was very special. A word for the Umpires. They need even more support from us. It’s getting to a stage where if a player shows dissent and brings the game into disrepute they shouldn’t go through this three strikes and out type system. Their game should end there and then. Sent off, go home we don’t need you. To fine captains and suspend them for the wrong doing of their players has been completely crazy. I haven’t forgotten that without the players we don’t have a game to watch as long as they don’t forget without us they don’t have anyone to perform in front of. Most are very aware of us and show their appreciation readily. There are not many bad eggs around. It’s been another season where the fans have embraced the latest social media sites and made great use of them. Twitter really came into its own. The day Ben Stokes of Durham smashed the first five balls for six in an over at the Rose Bowl showed twitter at its very best. Ball by ball account almost in real time was captivating wherever you were following. I do hope more county officials and coaches speak up for the game against the financially driven forces of international cricket but my hope is only just rising above chucking it in. Kevin Howells, BBC Glan Chapple “Gary Keedy’s run-out – which was his first direct hit in 19 seasons...”
