Sheffield Cricket Lovers' Society Year Book 2012

29 Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society Holmesfield Cricket Club play in the Sheaf Sports Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League Division 1. 2011 was the clubs most successful season so far. For the first time in our history we were crowned champions when we beat top of the league, Millhouses Works, by 16 runs in a pulsating last game of the season at Millthorpe. A great team effort for the last club in Division 1 with one team The team performance was emphasised by the final league statistics. The club had 5 of the top 9 run scorers including captain Jimmy Pearson, David Ward, Neil Pearson, Mark Rodgers and Tony Brown and 4 of the top 11 wicket takers in the league including Nick Crapper, David Ward, Danny Pearson and David Rosling. Jimmy Pearson won the league batting averages with an average of 54.33 including 5 scores of over 50 and 167 not out off 76 balls against Parkhead which included 20 6s. Nick Crapper came 2nd in the bowling averages by 0.06 with an average of 10.94. It continued to be a busy night at the awards dinner with Jimmy Pearson and David Ward setting a new league record for the 4th wicket stand with 226 not out against Parkhead. We were runners up in the Winston 2020 cup at Millhouses Park with Jimmy gaining the man of the match award with 81 not out off 61 balls and then taking 3 for 18. Jimmy also won the player of the month for August and September. Jimmy Pearson, David Ward and Nick Crapper were all selected in the League Team of the year and were also selected to play in the Presidents Trophy for the league side who beat the Derbyshire Premier League in the 1st round but unfortunately lost to the Nottinghamshire Premier League in the 2nd round. Holmesfield CC won 3 mathces in this years National Village Knockout up, finish runners up in the Butcher Cup, and finished in 2nd place in the Chesterfield Midweek League. We also won the sportsmanship trophy for the midweek league which followed last years sportsmanship award in the Sheaf Sports Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League. Holmesfield CC is a very sociable and family orientated club. The club runs a fundraising party each year to keep the club afloat which is well supported by members, locals, family and friends.
