36 Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society • Players spend one over at a time in a zone then move around according to the unique Cage Cricket sequence, until everyone has faced everyone else, once, in every position • Each player spends an equal amount of time with the bat, with the ball and in the field • A game consists of 30 overs in total and lasts under an hour • Batters score by hitting the walls of the court but lose runs if they are out (bowled or caught) • Bowlers score by taking wickets and fielders score by taking catches • The game is run by the person fielding in the Red Zone Street Activity At ‘Street’ level, Cage Cricket has been piloted for over a year in partnership with London Youth, The Princes Trust, Portland Young Offenders Institute, Mary Rose Specialist Sports College and Portsmouth FC’s Respectability Programme, achieving powerful outcomes with each of them. 2012 will see the nation- wide roll-out of street programmes involving communities, schools, youth groups, young offenders institutions and specialist disability centres. Elite Activity The aspirational showcase for Cage Cricket will be a series of ‘King of the Cage’ events which will involve some of the best players in world cricket in high-profile, arena-based entertainment spectaculars. The inaugural ‘King of the Cage’ event is due to take place next year in a major indoor arena. The event will be a full day entertainment and corporate spectacle, broadcast live to territories around the world and co-presented by Sir Ian Botham.
