Sheffield Cricket Lovers' Year Book 2014

7 Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society pure enjoyment. A most amusing and entertaining evening. 29th October 2012 This evening’s meeting, chaired by Peter Mason, was a family affair with our speakers being a father and son from the cricketing world - Ralph and James Middlebrook, the latter being the Northant’s Cricketer of the Year 2012. The format was for Ralph to pose questions to James for the first half of the meeting and after the break the questions to come from the members present. The first-half questions gave all present an insight into today’s cricket through the eyes of a current player, an interesting and refreshing exposé of the cricketing world, its successes and problems. The questions asked in the second half to both speakers covered their experiences past and present involving players, games and changes in the format of the game, their thoughts and hopes for the future of the sport. An enjoyable evening in the true tradition of the Society. 8th November 2012 Welcome back to David Warner a firm friend of the Society . David has been active in Cricket journalism for many years and had recently completed ‘The Sweetest Rose’ covering 150 years of The Yorkshire County Cricket Club. David told us of his involvement with the Club, becoming the Yorkshire cricket correspondent for the Telegraph & Argus in 1975. He has written extensively of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and has been editor of the Club’s Yearbook since 2009. David told us of the three years researching for the book and his anecdotal references to cricketing heroes were fascinating. This was a first class evening in the company of a man who is totally dedicated to The Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Thank you David. 19th November 2012 Our Autumn Dinner was themed ‘A Tribute to the 1987 Yorkshire Team’ winners of the Benson & Hedges Cup.
