For some the fact I live in Yorkshire is proof I’m a ‘Yorkie’. Well I love the place and have made many good friends but I’m not a fan and never have been. It’s easier that way. I want to be trusted. If I was passionate about any one club I would be worried I was being too one eyed and lose integrity. Always enjoyable to receive accusations in any one game that I am biased towards the other club over theirs and vice versa. I do sometimes slip into wishing one team or sometimes an individual to do well. But that is nothing more than wishing someone well or wishing a turn of events which makes a game all the more entertaining. 2. FAVOURITE GROUND? Scarborough, Taunton or Worcester. Difficult. The list could be longer. This year I will settle on Taunton. If I believed there was such a thing as fate it was at work two weeks from the end of the season. Certain as I was for many weeks that my penultimate round of matches would see me at Trent Bridge, it came as a surprise to get a message on the afternoon Yorkshire had lifted the LV County Championship that I was destined for the West Country. The title was decided and we turned our attention to relegation and Middlesex needing a win to avoid a last week crunch game at Lancashire. It had completely passed me by until my colleague Dave Bracegirdle sent me a text message saying ‘ you must have been lined up to swing the wrecking ball into the potting shed’. At that point I remembered the old pavilion complete with those wonderful theatre seats was coming down and with it our beloved garden sheds from where we have for years been afforded one of the best commentating views in the country. Many of my colleagues were delighted to see the end of the sheds. As I said at the time they probably like open plan offices and using terms such as ‘hub’.
