Sheffield Cricket Lovers' Society Year Book 2015

33 www.sheffieldcricketlovers.org.uk Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society www.cricketyorkshire.com A little like a carefully crafted Joe Root knock, after four years, the CricketYorkshire.com website is comfortable at the crease; hunkering down for an epic innings. In a cluttered galaxy of blogs and websites, word is gradually getting out that there’s a place to unearth unusual tales; stories from league and club cricket no-one else is featuring and reviews that go beyond the mere superficial. Specialising in Yorkshire cricket journalism as I do, it won’t come as a huge surprise that 2014 has been a rollercoaster but also a hugely rewarding year. The signature of Aaron Finch brought a sprinkling of (super)star dust to Headingley and I unearthed his batting partner to talk about when Finch first came to Yorkshire to play league cricket for Clifton Alliance. Such was the interest across the world, the conclusion to Yorkshire’s Championship-winning triumph at Trent Bridge nearly melted the internet and that was merely the precursor to a wave of indignation over Andrew Gale’s treatment. What does the future hold? Well, for Yorkshire, repeating their four-day feat will require amplified skill, application and fortitude. The great unknown as ever remains the impact of international selection but even without white-rose tinted blinkers, the strength in depth bodes well with a clutch of players like Rhodes, Fisher, Carver, Tattersall and Shaw all biding their time. As for Cricket Yorkshire, there’s a new website to knock into shape for January 2015; plans for more use of video and an endless supply of ideas for articles (usually coming into sharp focus at 3am). Hope to see you on the website sometime – www. cricketyorkshire.com - or if you use social media, I’m regularly on Twitter (@cricketyorks) or our Cricket Yorkshire Facebook page posting photos or asking for opinions. If you have any ideas for feature articles, people you think would make a popular interview or might be interested in writing, just get in touch via editorial@cricketyorkshire.com. Winter well and enjoy your cricket when it swings around again. It can’t come soon enough. JOHN FULLER, CRICKET YORKSHIRE. If it’s Cricket, it’s Got to be Cricket Yorkshire
