Passing on advice and skills to young cricketers is vital to their development and I have been very fortunate to have received such a high level of coaching (and still do to this day) from such people as Nick Gaywood, Dave Shutt, Riaz Richards and Simon Guy. I have also spent a lot of time speaking to and seeking advice from Michael Vaughan, Richard Kettleborough and Joe Root. I have played under many influential captains and senior players during my time at Collegiate, who have helped me not only to develop my own game but also to expand my coaching and technical knowledge, none more so than current first team skipper Matt Dixon. Increasing my own coaching skills. both here in England and also on my trips to South Africa and Australia, has taught me a lot about my own game which I try to apply every time I am involved out in the middle, such as patience whilst batting (choosing the correct balls to attack or defend), preparing mentally as well as physically for batting, bowling and fielding and the need to have confidence at all times in By JOSH VARLEY, JUNIOR COACH Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club
