16 Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society twitter: @scloverssociety The Indoor Season... ...continued from page 7 Wednesday 25th November 2015 A Pea & Pie supper at Abbeydale with our Guest Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket. After the meal Martyn gave a quick resume of the 2015 campaign, naturally being delighted having had another successful season. Martyn paid tribute to the excellent work done by Jason Gillespie the first team coach. He expressed the hope that Jason would remain with Yorkshire and the club would be seeking to win the County Championship for a third successive year. He pointed out that the county had been without key players away on England duty but there was sufficient talent in the squad to maintain a high performance level. Martyn then handled questions from the floor giving straight to the point answers to a very varied range of opinions and queries from a very keen audience. A very interesting meeting enjoyed by all Wednesday 9th December 2015 Our final meeting of the indoor season saw the welcome return of Stephen Chalke, author and publisher and cricket fanatic. Stephen themed the evening with a discourse on the development of the County Championship. His talk ranged from the 1890’s through to the present day. He highlighted some of the differences between counties...the first time Yorkshire played against Middlesex the visitors were deemed to be ‘not our cup of tea’ by the Yorkshire team. Stephen made mention of a number of players who had significantly contributed to the development of the County Championship and to our great delight reminded us that in 1968 Yorkshire beat Australia by an innings at Bramall Lane! We loved that !! Another excellent evening to round off the season. Thursday 14th January 2016 Away we go for another Indoor Season. New Venue at Lees Hall Golf Club and an interesting evening to look forward to in the company of Yorkshire Player Steven Patterson accompanied by Yorkshire’s Commercial Director, Andy Dawson. Andy began by outlining his role at Headingley and the importance of the need to continually seek ways of producing income for the County coffers. Steven Patterson then outlined his career to date. Born in Beverley he is one of a very few to have represented Yorkshire and who have hailed from the Hull area. Steve came to Leeds University to study mathematics in 2002. He played his first one day match for Yorkshire in August 2002 then made his First Class debut after graduating in 2005. Steven played a major role in the Championship winning years in 2014/2015 and we look forward to his continuing success in the coming years. Continued on page 24
