3 DAVID LONGLEY Having lost much of 2020 to Covid we entered 2021 in very uncertain territory. Zoom technology came to our rescue, providing the means by which we were able to hold the AGM in February, along with regular committee meetings in the Spring and Summer. e Committee decided the David Drabble New Year’s Honorary Membership Award should go to John Hopkins. e Society’s Accounts Examiner has worked tirelessly for us over many years, given Dorothy major support on the accounts, and fully deserves recognition. When Ali Saad tentatively put together an Autumn programme of speakers we were uncertain whether or not it would be able to go ahead. Dorothy has been brilliant in organising the Zoom meetings and generally keeping us all in order, whilst Brian Whitehead and Andy Jordan have done an amazing job clearing all the memorabilia from David Drabble’s house. Much of it has been sold to raise money for the Society and, as David never threw anything away, his lo and garage were like Aladdin’s cave! Unfortunately, Rosemary Moseley has had to resign from the committee for health reasons a er many years’ service. A lovely unassuming lady who encouraged members to buy ra e tickets, she achieved it with a smile rather than pressure. Earlier in the year I visited to thank her and present a bouquet of owers on behalf of the Society - her work with us will undoubtedly be missed. Finally, thank you to Dorothy and the committee for their hard work and dedication during what has been a very trying period. On behalf of us all I wish you a very happy Christmas.
