George Smith The Yorkshire Cricket Museum has been handed a rare piece of memorabilia - thanks to the generosity of the family of our co-founder and former Secretary, David Drabble. An England cap, belonging to Wilfred Rhodes, a Yorkshire and England cricketing legend, has been officially presented by Rachael Attwell, David’s daughter. The cap had been in David’s possession for more than 50 years after he was given it by Rhodes at a special presentation dinner at the Sheffield Cricket Lovers’ Society in the 60s, where Rhodes was honoured for his achievements in cricket. The cap was then re-discovered in 2019 by Rachael and her family when her father passed away in 2019. Rachael said: “We knew this was really special to Dad and he often spoke about the cap. It is a very important piece of cricket memorabilia and may have fetched a considerable sum of money had it been sold, but we decided as a family that we wanted this to go on and have a link to Dad in the best way.” The cap was presented by Rachael (right) to Charlotte Hughes, the Heritage Manager for Yorkshire Cricket Museum, at Yorkshire’s Championship match against Essex at Headingley.
