TImperley CC Yearbook 2019

2 2. TCC is inclusive attracting participation from across all communities in Trafford . We continued to field 6 senior teams including the over 40s, not always an easy task to get teams out every weekend especially during exam season but we managed to field full teams and fulfil all our fixtures throughout the season. A great effort from all of our team captains. All stars had a successful second year for the younger age group. Our junior teams were active at most age groups although the U18 team had to concede part way through the season. With a keen cricket playing daughter, building girls and women’s cricket at Timperley is a pet topic. Timperley also hosted 2 women’s Softball Cricket events although these were not well attended. Elsewhere in the county girls’ and women’s cricket is proving to be a great success and I would hope we could see some progress in this area at Timperley too. 3. TCC has an established development pipeline that enables all players to reach their full potential (or at least the level they desire) and in doing so enable our junior and senior teams to excel. Everyone needs to start somewhere. This year we continued to participate in the second year of the ECB All Stars project an entry-level participation programme aimed at boys and girls aged between five and eight. At the other end of the spectrum in senior representative cricket we had the best season that I can remember. Jack White, Furqan Shafiq and Ed Galley all represented Cheshire. Jack also played for Northamptonshire and Leicestershire 2nd XI and we should not forget Dave Cain who represented both Cheshire at over 60s and 70s. However, the highlight came in the final matches of the county championship when Brook Guest played his first game of the Lancashire first XI. The first time a Timperley player has played for Lancashire for a very long time. Can I give my personal congratulations to all or county players. But joining the dots between our All Stars and our county players is one of the challenges facing us and Development pathways are something we need to work on further in the coming years. 4. TCC has excellent playing and coaching facilities. Following the problems associated with last year’s ground work, we had great hopes for the 2018 season. The outfield and square had recovered well over the winter and prior to the season, together with the other sections we had contributed £1250 of the section’s money towards additional grounds maintenance work to ensure the pitches were in top condition and would continue to improve throughout the season. Then it stopped raining! As a consequence, for much of this year our playing and coaching facilities have left much to be desired due to the exceptionally dry summer compounded by last year’s drainage work. Once again it was not an easy summer for Andy as he struggled against the elements to keep the square and outfield in a reasonably playable condition. With members’ and the Club’s help again investing in overfilling the drain lines we just about made it through until the rain arrived in August. The Club grounds committee led by Gary continued to help oversee and support Andy in his work. Thanks Gary
