133 The ECB Association of Cricket Officials The ECB ACO came into existence on 1 January 2008 as a result of the amalgamation of the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers (ACU&S) and the ECB Officials Association (ECBOA). The ECB ACO has established new qualifications based on the Levels of National Vocational Qualifications. Umpires’ courses leading to Level 1, Level 1a and Level 2c will be available in the winter of 2012-13. The Level 2 course is available, by recommendation from their County Performance Officer, to umpires selected for Premier League cricket and beyond. Courses for Scorers, based on a similar structure, will also be available from Winter 2012-13. All development of officials will be integrated into County Board planning and funding arrangements. The ECB ACO has the following categories of membership and is open to all Umpires and Scorers at every level: • Full Members – holding a CRB clearance • Associate Members – not active • Junior Members – Under 21 – holding a CRB clearance • Overseas Members – outside ECC • Honorary Members – elected by ACO Board Education and training is proposed, ultimately following this structure: • 5-Level structure for Umpires and Scorers • Entry level and introductory courses as appropriate • Levels 1 to 3 based on National Standards set by Sports Officials UK • Tutors trained to equivalent of Certificate in Tutoring Sport standard On behalf of the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board, ACO Nottinghamshire runs an appointments panel for ECB ACO members to support a range of non-league cricket in the county including county boys’ and girls’ age-groups, universities, schools and special events.
