6 The Harry Tomlins Trophy – Rules & Playing Conditions 87 8.4 In Interrupted Matches (i) If, owing to a delayed start to the first innings or a suspension in play during the first innings, the first innings will continue until the allocated number of overs has been faced. (ii) If, owing to a delayed start to the second innings or a suspension in play during the second innings, the aim is to allow the side batting second the opportunity to face as many overs as possible before the prevailing ground, weather or light conditions intervene. In such circumstances the winner shall be decided using Competition Rule 8.5(iii). Should it be deemed that there is no longer the opportunity for the side batting second to face the minimum of 20 overs required in order to achieve a result, the match should be abandoned. 8.5 The Result (i) When both sides have had the opportunity of batting for the same agreed number of overs, the side scoring the higher number of runs shall be the winner. If the scores are equal, the result shall be determined by the following criteria, taken in order: a) The team that has lost the fewer wickets. b) The team with the higher score at the end of the 20 th completed over. c) The team with the higher score at the end of the completed penultimate over, or if tied, the previous over, and so on until a winner can be decided. d) The toss of a coin. (ii) In an interrupted match, where the side in the 1 st innings batted for longer than the side in the 2 nd innings, a result can only be achieved if both teams have batted for at least 20 overs unless one team has been all out in less than 20 overs or unless the team batting second scores enough runs to win in less than 20 overs. In such circumstances, the result shall be determined by the following criteria, taken in order: a) The average run rate. b) The team that lost the fewer wickets at the end of the 20 th completed over. c) The match to be declared ‘a tie’ and replayed (in accordance with Competition Rule 5(ii)). d) Should it not be possible to replay the game, the toss of a coin. (iii) If a match is abandoned before it has been played to a conclusion and before the team batting second has received its allocated number of overs (providing that it has received not less than 20 overs or reached their target), the match
