4 Constitution, Rules & Playing Conditions 49 (ii) In the event of a bowler being unable to complete an over for any reason, the over in progress shall be completed by any other player except the player who bowled the previous over or any player where this would contravene the ECB Fast Bowling Directives (please refer to Rule 3.1.1 and Appendix 1). Any such parts of an over shall count as a full over towards each bowler’s allocation. (iii) The Captain of the fielding side, in consultation with the Umpire(s) and/or scorers, shall be responsible for ensuring that no bowler exceeds the quota of overs laid down by Rule 3.6(i) or the ECB Fast Bowling Directives (please refer to Rule 3.1.1 and Appendix 1). 3.7 Scoreboard (i) It shall be the responsibility of the batting side to ascertain the details of the score, wickets and overs from the scorers and to see that the scoreboard is brought up to date with this information at least at the end of every over – assuming that no official means of updating the scoreboard is in place. (ii) The passage of overs shall be indicated by a reducing number on the scoreboard. (iii) The scoreboard must be unobstructed at all times. 3.8 Ball (i) All balls will be stamped as a BDCL ball and must be purchased through League arrangements as communicated. Each club shall provide its own balls for use when fielding. In the Championship, the match ball shall be new. In all other Divisions, the match ball may not be new, but in all Divisions, the spare ball must not be new. In the Championship, the match ball must be: a) Reader Sovereign In all other Divisions, the match balls must be one of the following: a) Reader Sovereign b) Reader County Match c) Reader League Special (ii) The balls (match and spare) to be used must be submitted to, and approved by the Umpires and Captains before the toss of the coin when indication shall be given as to which is the first ball. 3.9 Replacement Ball If and when the spare or any subsequent ball(s) are brought into play, they shall be brought into play in their present condition.
