68 c) The Umpires are authorised to intervene in cases of: Time wasting Damaging the pitch Dangerous and unfair bowling Tampering with the ball Any other action that they consider to be unfair d) The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for: Your opponents Your own team Captain and team The role of the Umpires The game and its traditional values e) It is against the Spirit of the Game: To dispute an Umpire’s decision by word, action or gesture To direct abusive language towards an opponent or Umpire To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance: ‐ To appeal knowing that the batsman is not out ‐ To advance towards an Umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing ‐ To seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one’s own side f) Violence There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play. g) Players Captains and Umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this. (iii) Failure to comply with the provisions of Paragraph 1 may lead to disciplinary action, irrespective of an alleged breach being related to a match not under the jurisdiction of the League. 7.4.2 PROCEDURE (i) Any alleged breach of Paragraph 1, may be dealt with by the Umpires in one of the following ways: a) The breach is deemed of a minor nature. Verbal advice/caution should be given to the player and/or the Captain in the appropriate way (no written report is required). b) Where the breach is more serious, a written report containing the facts and documenting the incident should be produced (only on the Umpire
