Bassetlaw and District Cricket League Official Handbook 2019

i Foreword The invitation to be President of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League for 2019  came ‘out of the blue’ but one I was honoured, privileged and proud to accept on  behalf of myself, my club Woodsetts Community and my family.  I started in recreational cricket as a junior scorer and player in 1956 for Otley Wesley  in the Dales Council League, then from 1964 to 1972 I played for Armthorpe Welfare  in the Doncaster League.  I was lucky enough to be part of the team that won the  inaugural Premier League title in 1971.  I was one of the original founders of my club Woodsetts Community in 1973 and as  well as playing until 2006 have served as Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman and latterly  President; and as a Bassetlaw League umpire to the current season.  I am also  privileged to serve as a member of the League Management Committee since 2013.  I am sure clubs are only too aware of the many troubling issues affecting cricket both  on and off the field of play, at junior and senior levels together with the number of  players and umpires to play and administer matches.  These were reflected at the  November 2018 Annual General Meeting and to say the least it will be interesting to  have clubs’ views and proposals to hopefully put us on the path to resolving many of  these issues.
