4 Constitution, Rules & Playing Conditions 45 Children’ Policy as part of its commitment to ensuring that the game provides a safe, friendly and enjoyable experience for children. The Policy provides the sport with the tools to ensure that the whole game takes up the challenge of continuously improving the participation conditions for children. Safeguarding and Child Protection is applicable to all and this must be adhered to. Safeguarding and Child Protection will not be implemented overnight. It is a long‐term process. It is the responsibility of the whole club to implement the appropriate Safeguarding policies and procedures. 3.13.2 The duty of care should be interpreted in two ways: 3.13.2.1 Not to place a young player in a position that involves an unreasonable risk to that young player, taking account of the circumstances of the match and the relative skill of the player. 3.13.2.2 Not to create a situation that places members of the opposing side in a position whereby they cannot play cricket, as they would normally do against adult players. 3.13.3 Every club MUST : 3.13.3.1 Nominate a Club Welfare Officer who will advise and ensure that Safeguarding is being adhered to in the club. Full contact details for this person must be supplied to the League along with the Club Information Sheet prior to the start of every season. 3.13.3.2 Ensure the following club personnel undertake a Vetting Check (DBS): • Coach/Coaches • Scorer(s) • Colts/Junior Managers • Age Group Managers • Open Age Group Team Captains (where players under 18 are regularly in the side) • Junior Supervisors • First Aiders • Physiotherapists • Medical Support • Umpires (League Umpires are managed by the BDUA) 3.13.3.3 Ensure that all other club personnel not listed above undertake a Vetting Check if they are to have regular/unsupervised or sole access to children. 3.13.4 Every Club Welfare Officer MUST : • Attend a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ course. • Attend the ‘Safe Hands’ Course.
