4 Constitution, Rules & Playing Conditions 63  7.6.3 The player and Captain shall be required to attend the hearing (in the case of  a club by its Secretary or other official).  In addition, the player can be  supported by a club colleague and to call witnesses.  7.6.4 The hearing shall be conducted by the Disciplinary Sub‐Committee of the  League which shall consist of not less than three persons.  7.7 LEVELS and PENALTIES  7.7.1 The umpires shall act on any unacceptable conduct.  Four levels of offence and  the corresponding actions by the umpires are identified as Level 1, Level 2,  Level 3 and Level 4 Offences in Law 42.2 to 42.5.  7.7.2 If either umpire considers that the conduct of a player, at any time during the  match, is unacceptable, the umpire concerned shall call and signal ‘Dead Ball’.   This call may be delayed until the umpire is satisfied that it will not  disadvantageously affect the non‐offending team.  7.7.3 The umpire concerned shall report the matter to the other umpire and  together they shall decide whether there has been a breach of the disciplinary  code.  If so, they shall determine into which of the levels of conduct it falls, as  set out in the Level 1 to Level 4 Offences below, and then apply the  appropriate sanction.  7.7.4 If the offence is committed by a batsman, the umpires shall summon the  offending player’s captain to the field.  Solely for the purpose of this Law, the  batsman at the wicket may not deputise for his captain.  7.8 Level 1 Offences and action by the umpires  7.8.1 Any of the following actions by a player shall constitute a Level 1 offence:  7.8.1.1   Wilfully mistreating any part of the cricket ground, equipment or  implements used in the match.  7.8.1.2   Dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action.  7.8.1.3   Using language that, in the circumstances is obscene, offensive or  insulting.  7.8.1.4   Making an obscene gesture.  7.8.1.5   Appealing excessively.  7.8.1.6   Advancing towards the umpire in an aggressive manner whilst appealing.  7.8.1.7   Any other misconduct which is, in the opinion of the umpires, equivalent  to a Level 1 offence.  7.8.2 If such an offence is committed, 7.8.2.1 to 7.8.2.6 shall be implemented as  appropriate, according to whether it is the first offence at any Level.  7.8.2.1   The umpire shall call time if necessary.  7.8.2.2   Together the umpires shall summon and inform the offending player’s  captain that an offence at this Level has occurred.
