50  Appointments will be made prior to the season start, and details of  appointments are shown against the fixtures listed in the handbook.  A copy  will also be sent to Umpires individually, and to all clubs, via email.  All appointments listed are subject to change at the discretion of the Umpires’  Appointments Secretary.  6.2.3 Should any Umpire be unable to accept his appointment he must immediately  notify the clubs and the Umpires’ Appointments Secretary who shall appoint  a substitute.  Except in extreme and unavoidable circumstances, the Umpires’  Appointments Secretary must be informed by 10.00am on the day of the  match at the very latest.  6.2.4 In the event of an Umpire failing to keep his appointment, the home Club  Secretary must at once inform the Umpires’ Appointment Secretary.  6.2.5 In the event of the appointed Umpire(s) failing to attend the match, or their  being no Umpires appointed, the Captain of the batting side shall use his best  endeavours to appoint substitute Umpires who are senior players.  In the  event that this is not possible, then the Captain shall use best endeavours to  ensure that juniors stand as Umpire at the striker’s end only.  6.2.6 League appointed umpire/s have full responsibility and sole authority for the  conduct of the game and in deciding whether a game should start, be stopped  or re‐started due to unsatisfactory condition of the ground, weather or light.  6.2.7 If no Umpire (or substitute) is available, Captains take full responsibility and  sole authority for the conduct of the game.  In deciding whether a game  should start, be stopped or re‐started due to unsatisfactory conditions of the  ground, weather or light, every attempt should be made to reach an  agreement.  Bearing in mind that the safety of players is paramount, should  an accident occur which is due to unsatisfactory conditions, then the Captain  could be held liable.  When in doubt, or if the Captains disagree, then play  should not take place.  Captains are encouraged to report incidents where the  actions of players in terms of their behaviour, language and/or conduct is  such, that it is felt that the relevant players should be reported to the LMC  under its Code of Conduct.  6.3  Payment of Umpires  6.3.1 Each appointed Umpire shall, not later than the end of the interval, be paid  match expenses of £45.00, the cost to be shared by both clubs concerned.  Should there be no play in the game following the arrival of both teams and  the Umpires at the ground, the match expenses of the Umpires shall be £15.00  each, shared by the clubs concerned.  6.3.2 Any such expenses shall be paid by the away club if, due to the condition of  the ground, no play is possible, and that club has insisted on travelling against  the advice of the home club.
