Lincolnshire County Cricket League Handbook 1970

He went with every good wish from colleagues and opponents alike for Norman is a most likeable character if a somewhat daunting one when playing in opposition . At Edgbaston he proved to be almost as big a threat to the big-name batsmen as he had been to their Lincolnshire League counterparts. Within weeks of bowling his first ball for Warwickshire he was actually top of the first class averages and behind him tra iled his illustrious co ll eague David Brown , opening bowler in the Test series against the New Zealanders and West Indi ans. Later Norman slipped a little way down the averages list but was hardly ever out of the lead ing 20 and finished the season, with 74 wickets, in 13th position . It was even suggested in one Daily newspaper-before he had completed half a season in first class cricket-that newcomer McVicker would probably find himself booked for one of the close season tours abroad . This did not happen, unfortunately. But his performances in the Players' Sunday League televised games, and figures from County matches, showed how well Norman deserved his opportunity to play at th is level. He is assured of a warm welcome if he ever chooses to re -appear in the Lincolnshire League .
