Lincolnshire County Cricket League Handbook 1970

INTERNATIONAL CAVALIERS Gary Sobers, Graeme Pollock, Freddie Truman , Bobby Simpson, Roy Fredericks-a collection of personalities that would fill a stadium anywhere in the cricketing world . And that was the class of opposition chosen by the International Cavaliers for the Lincolnshire League in their Rothmans-sponsored challenge match last season . More than 5000 people packed into the splendidly prepared Boston C.C . ground at Rosebery Avenue for surely the rarest feast of cricketing talent that the County has ever staged. They were not disappointed. For Graeme Pollock, probably the greatest batsman in the world today, exhibited all the extraordinary talent he possesses in a magnificent innings of 98 and Sobers, though left short of batting time himself, joined Trueman and Simpson in an attack that might have ' beH~n the porduct of a connoisseur's imagination . It is a tribute to Lincolnshire's reception of the Cavaliers in terms of facilities, ''sµ pport and playing opposition, that the Lincolnshire League wHl, this season, be meeting them again though failing to officially -Cjualify for the fixture by winning the Rothman League Cricket Conference last year. An application by League Secretary Bert Woodend to bring the International Cavaliers back to the County was considered and accepted, and the game will take place at the Cleethorpes CC, ground on Sunday August 9th, Because of the large-sca le support for the two previous fixtures against the Cavaliers it is intended to have tickets on sale well in advance and those interested are advised to make their requirements known as early as possible. Details of the two previous fixtures against the Cavaliers appear on the following pages.
