Lincolnshire County Cricket League Handbook 1973

TED NUTTER Ted Nutter, the Cleethorpes Cricket Club seam bowler, has announced his retirement. That fact, though it will cause many a batsman to sigh with relief, casts its own shadow, for Ted has become an almost integral part of league cricket in Lincolnshire Since he arrived in these parts, and particularly during recent years when Cleethorpes have had such a large share of Premier Division honours, Ted has become' regarded as one of the most consistent and able bowlers on the Lincolnshire cricket scene. He did, of course, represent the County on numerous occasions during the late 1950's after his move into Lincolnshire from Lancashire where he had won his re-rose cap for Lancashire II's and also performed with credit in the powerful Lancashire League. His part in the Lincolnshire League XI's performances of recent seasons has also been significant and this competition has served to highlight the extreme economy of his bowling. Those people who have consistenly played against Ted Nutter during his spell with Cleethorpes - and previously he played for a short period with Paper Mills - will testify to the fact that runs probably came harder against him than all but one or two others throughout the League. Like 1 most of his breed Ted played his game with a professionalism and determination that is from the hard school of Lancashire League Cricket that both Cleethorpes and the Lincolnshire League representative side may find difficult to replace. No doubt Ted will still retain a close interest in the affairs of the League. And behind him he will leave a host of memories for those who opposed him. Like most 'characters' within the game of cricket Ted caused and created stories that still circulate within the dressing rooms and bars of the League and that is surely a measure of the impact he had on our game in Lincolnshire. We wish him good luck on behalf of everyone associated with the 'C.C.L. 32
