~ \..,J~- KEITH PICKWELL - YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR At the age of 20, Keith Pickwell, who was a County Colt, has completed 5 seasons with Southcliffe Cricket Club. The award of the J.H. Bale Trophy for the Most Improved Under 21 Player has come as a fitting end to his best ever season, both in the Lincolnshire League and for his club in general. Keith took 40 wickets at an average of 7.0 in the Lincolnshire League to improve his tally by 16 wickets over 1972. It was his consistant performance that brought about the award of the J.H. Bale Trophy but some very remarkable performances in other games led to a total club haul of 95 wickets for the season. Keith took 9 for 23 in a Neward Alliance game against Sutton– on-Trent and 8 for 3 in a Lincoln League game against Market Rasen. The latter included a hat-trick which won him a pair of cricket boots from the Nottingham Evening Post for the first hat-trick of the season. Keith achieved a second hat-trick in a friendly against Alford who reached 73 for 4 when chasing a Southcliffe score of 75 all out but were dismissed for 74 as Keith bowled the last three batsmen in successive balls.
