In these circumstances the player is only deemed II Out - Absent 11 , when the bowling side has taken al l possible wickets of those batsmen that are present . Therefore in this game , Hykeham took 8 wickets but two batsmen remained not out and so 3 bowling points are awarded . If Hykeham had taken the ninth wicket , this would have been the fourth bowling point and , with the absent player unable to bat , the fifth bowling point would automatically also be awarded. I have also discussed your claim for the extra bowling point with Nigel Fisher and we are both in agreement that the wicket of an absent player only becomes an issue when all other wickets have been taken .
