153 RAWTENSTALL In 1976, Rawtenstall won the Worsley Cup for the first time as Senior Champions, performed the "Double" for the first time in the Club's history. On May 31st 1980, in the Junior League game, Rawtenstall v Lowerhouse, the respective scores after each side had batted 33 overs were, 313-7 and 246-6 a total of 559 runs at an average of 8.469 runs per over. Rawtenstall won the Junior League Championship in 1980 with the highest number of points, 107, since bonus points and limited overs were introduced. On 24th May 1980 a record 34 over score of 268 for 4 was made by Rawtenstall against Rishton. On 1st May 1982 at Thorneyholme Road, Paul Riding (41no) & John Beaumont (37no) shared a last wicket stand of 76. In 1982 Rawtenstall won the Senior Championship for the sixth time, their other successes being in 1981, 1976, 1926, 1904 and 1894 and in 1922 they tied with Bacup. Matthew Mott made the highest score by a professional (161 not out) for Rawtenstall against Lowerhouse in 2001. Rawtenstall scored a league record limited overs total of 347-7 at home to Nelson on 7th September 2003. On 24thApril 2005 Rawtenstall 2nds at home to Rishton 2nds, scored 469-4 a second eleven record team score. Peter Wood had 24 seasons for Rawtenstall, 497 innings, not out 57 times, 14951 runs at an average of 33.98, top score of 148 with 12 centuries and 99 scores of 50 or more. Peter Hanson set a new Club wicket keeping record in 2012 – 292 caught & 173 stumped – total 465 surpassing the record of BrianManning. Keith Roscoe took his 1500th wicket of his Lancashire League career at Enfield on 22nd June 2013 and went on to end the season with 1540 wickets, having taken 5wickets on 97 occasions and 50wickets in a season 15 times. RISHTON Batting first against Enfield on July 2nd 1949 Rishton scored 283 runs in 133 minutes. In winning the Junior League Championship in 1953, Rishton 2nd XI never lost amatch andwere never totally dismissed throughout the season. Rishton in 1955 won the Senior Championship and the Worsley Cup performing the "Double" for the first time in the Club's history. In the 1955Worsley Cup final Gupte (pro) took 10wickets for 101 runs. In 1956 againstAccrington at Thorneyholme Road Gupte (pro) took 8 for 19 including 2 hat tricks. Rishton had a 15 match sequence without losing in 1995 13 wins and 2NR Frank Martindale was the leading wicket keeper for 4 successive seasons 1979 to 1982. This meant a sequence of him being the leading wicket keeper for 7 out of 8 seasons following his previous run at Enfield from1975 to 1977.
