155 TODMORDEN Todmorden won the Championship in 1927 with all ten amateurs playing under a birth qualification and their professional was also Lancashire born. In 1938 Todmorden became the first Club to win the Worsley Cup two seasons in succession. Todmorden by winning the League Championship and the Worsley Cup in 1954 completed the "Double" for the second time. M.Hartley, against Bacup on 24th July 1976 took 9 wickets for 13 runs, including a hat trick and had conceded 10 runs in his first over. Frans Cronje (pro) made a club record individual score of 159 not out for Todmorden against Rishton on 9thAugust 1997. On 26th June 1999 Todmorden made 301-3 with Ramsbottom making 303- 7, a League aggregate record highest score, at the time. Brendan Nash (176*) and Richard Baigent (94) had a 2nd wicket partnership of 252 against Ramsbottom. Richard Baigent made a club amateur record score of 147 not out for Todmorden againstAccrington on 7thMay 2000. Matthew Brierley (38*) & Tushar Arothe (189*), put on 187 for the 4th wicket on 27th July 2002. Simon Newbitt broke the Club amateur batting record for runs in a season with 892 runs in 2009. Simon Newbitt became Todmorden's leading ever century scorer with a score of 140 at Haslingden on 28th July 2013, his 7th in League matches and 8th overall. INTERESTING ITEMS At the Annual Meeting of the League, on February 28th, 1934, a pair of Silver Candlesticks, suitably inscribed, were presented by the President, on behalf of the League, to Mr. Eddie Paynter, to commemorate his brilliant performance with the M.C.C. 1932-33 touring team in the Test Match, England v.Australia. Mr Paynter learned his cricket with the Enfield club, with whom he played as an amateur in the League. In season 1939 five players with birth qualifications for Bacup C.C. were engaged by first-class counties, two with Lancashire, two withWorcestershire, and one withNorthampton. Todmorden C.C. during Season 1949 had five players with birth qualifications for the Club playing in first-class County Cricket. D. Shackleton andH. DawsonwithHampshire. P. Greenwoodwith Lancashire. R. Horsfall with Essex and K. Fiddling with Northants. D. Shackleton also played for England in a Test Match against theWest Indies in 1950. Mark Harvey of Burnley made his debut for Lancashire 1st team during the 1994 season. S.F. Barnes was Rishton’s pro in 1895 and then Professional for Rawtenstall in 1933.
