Lancashire League Handbook 2018
20 and this year we had 2 keepers with 6 victims, Mark Nuttall of Rishton against Gt Harwood on the 6th May and Tiarnan Hamill of Enfield against Accrington on 28th May. The final individual award is the Bill Harrison Trophy which goes to the best performance by an Under 23 player in a match. It was decided that this year that the award would go to a player who made 55 not out in a close match at Turf Moor on the 8th of July. He was joined by his father with the score at 67 for 4 with his side chasing Burnley’s 222. A partnership of 107 took his side to 176 for 5 and he stood firm as three wickets fell on 211. All this at the tender age of just 14. The trophy was awarded to JJ Fielding of Ramsbottom. The Umpires awards are decided by captain’s marks and these are complied by Deputy Chairman Peter West. We again had four county 2nd team umpires and three officiated in minor county fixtures. The Panel is strong and it will be further strengthened in 2018 as we recruit a number of ex Pennine League Umpires. Expansion means that we need 48 umpires to fulfill each set of fixtures rather than the 32 from 2017. The general standard of umpire’s marks in 2017 was excellent with 14 umpires achieving 96% or higher. Ken Fergusson was in.3rd position just behind Naeem Ashraf who took the Wally Ashley Shield with 98.92% and Duncan Warburton took the Harry Saul Trophy with 99.1%. Jack Bottomley our Assistant Secretary collates the marks for Club awards, again another greatly appreciated help to me. There are 4 awards, best 1st team scoreboard, best tea room, sportsmanship and the captain’s award. This year’s scoreboard award was a close-run thing. There was only half a percentage mark between 4th and 7th. There was a tie for second place with two teams on 97.98%, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall. But this year in top place with a full house, 100% was Rishton. The second award is the tea room award. In second place on 97.5% were Colne But the winners with a full plate for the second consecutive year with 100% were Todmorden. The Joe Collier Trophy is decided by the marks awarded by Umpires at each
