Lancashire League Handbook 2019

107 ROCHDALE - Ed Moore (South Africa) Ed Moore returns to Rochdale for a second spell having had a successful time last year. Although he was forced to return home half way through the season, Ed still managed to compile 978 runs in all competitions. A left handed opening batsman and off spinner from Eastern Province, South Africa, Ed arrives on the back of a very successful domestic season, the highlights of which include an undefeated double century against Gauteng, and him batting through the innings against The Titans, making 116 not out. ED’s versatility is underlined by his ability to combine doggedness with attractive stroke play and improvisation. He now averages over 40 in first class cricket. RISHTON - Manson Amjad (Pakistan) Mansoor Amjad returns for his third season in the JW Lees Lancashire League and his second at Rishton. Mansoor was resigned by the club on the strength of two hundreds and seven fifties in his record of 803 runs at an average of 50.18 (a record that we hope he will surpass in 2019) and his 30 wickets at an average of 28.06 ( a record that we are confident he will improve upon in the forthcoming season). Manny is a popular professional around the club and as a committee we have hoped that he will inspire the team to a much improved showing in 2019 which will allow the team at least to compete in the vast majority of games. Hopefully by competing in every game, he will allow the team to record more victories and whilst promotion is the preferred outcome, a team that improves upon its win record of 2018 is the absolute bare minimum requirement. TODMORDEN - Alankara Asanka Silva (Sri Lanka) Alankara is a 33 year old all-rounder from Sri Lanka and he currently captains his first class team back home, Badureliya Sports Club, in the highest tier of first class cricket in Sri Lanka. Alankara bowls off spin and is a right handed batsman and he made his first class debut back in 2005. Alankara has taken over 300 first class wickets proving his quality with the ball as well as scoring over 3,000 first class runs to date. Whilst Alankara has been predominantly a bowling all rounder throughout his career, over the last 12 months his bowling has been overshadowed as he has found himself opening the batting this year where he has impressed by scoring 526 runs from 9 games at an average of 52.60 with a high score of 151 to go along with his 19 wickets at an average of 27.47. Alankara is a proven performer back home and over the last 3 first class seasons he has played every game and from those 27 fixtures he has taken 115 wickets at an average 25.00. WALSDEN - Umesh Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) The 2019 season will see Umesh enter his sixth season as Walsden pro. A 30 year old off spinner and aggressive middle order batsman from Sri Lanka where he has scored 3,553 first class runs and taken 216 first class wickets. In his previous 5 seasons at Walsden CC he has scored 3,677 runs and taken 366 wickets (excl T20) in the CLL/PCL/LL helping Walsden to win 3 League championships and the Wood Cup.
