Lancashire League Handbook 2020

115 RAMSBOTTOM - Daryn Smit (SA) Ramsbottom have announced the return of Daryn Smit as professional for 2020. In 2019, Daryn played twelve games as sub professional - six for champions Burnley, five for Ramsbottom and one for Worsley Cup winners Darwen, his club winning every match he appeared in. South African Daryn Smit had three seasons as professional at Ramsbottom (14/15/16) culminating in a Lancashire League championship win in 2016. That season he scored 774 runs at 86.0 with two centuries and seven half centuries, all match winning efforts apart from the No Result against Nelson. With the ball Smit picked up 69 wickets at 8.1 with five-five wicket hauls, including a best of 7-15 at Colne. Daryn’s form was the major factor in Ramsbottom’s success in 2015. Daryn broke Brad Hodge’s professional club batting record, making 1248 runs at 113.5 with three centuries and eleven half centuries. He was also out in front as the league’s top wicket taker before returning home with four matches to play; finishing with 74 wickets at 8.2. In 98 matches Lancashire League matches; Daryn’s record is an impressive 4024 runs at 85 and 307 wickets at 8.35. RAWTENSTALL - Jurie Snyman (SA) Rawtenstall have signed left handed top order batsman Jurie Snyman who also bowls useful right arm off-spin. He is described as destructive on his day and Rawtenstall hope that he has many of these during 2020 and that he can contribute heavily with both bat and ball. Jurie has plenty of UK experience and is also a very capable coach and all at Rawtenstall welcome him to the Club. RISHTON - Shaun Von Berg (SA) Shaun Von Berg needs little or no introduction to followers of JW Lees Lancashire League Cricket. VB is a proven match winner with bat or ball and is a throwback to the halcyon days of the “club” pro. Rishton CC were in advanced negotiations to sign a professional prior to re-signing Shaun but once Von Berg had informed the club that a) he was available to play Lancashire League in 2020 and b) he wanted to resume his relationship with Rishton CC , the decision really was a no brainer for the committee of the club. His record for Rishton of 1353 runs at 54.12 and 104 wickets at 9.93 are truly outstanding statistics. If Shaun performs to anywhere near this level and can encourage the amateurs of the club to contribute when his fails to reach this ultra-high standard, we are hopeful of a successful 2020 at Blackburn Road hopefully leading to Division 1 cricket returning to for the 2021 campaign.
