Lancashire League Handbook 2020

23 Unfortunately the Lancashire Telegraph had to withdraw their Sponsorship of the tankards and we thank them for their many years of support. The Executive have subsequently decided to continue awarding them for Division One performances. The highest score by a Professional in Division One was by Sami Aslam who was acting as substitute professional for Norden against Lowerhouse on the 21st July with 131 and in Division Two honours went to Sachithra Serasinghe for Bacup against Milnrow on the 30th June at Milnrow. The top score by an amateur in Division Two was by Matthew Griffin of Haslingden with 115 against Milnrow at Milnrow on 24th August. The winner of the batting tankard, for the highest amateur score was Denis Louis of Crompton whoscored140 in the first game of the season at home to Church on the 21st of April. The best bowling performance by a Professional in Division One was by Ockert Erasmus of Lowerhouse at Rochdale on 25th August with 6 for 23 and in Division Two James Price of Colne took 7 for 32 against Haslingden on 18th August. In Division Two the best bowling by an amateur was by Aaron Brown of Milnrow with 8 for 38 against Great Harwood on the 19th of May. But whilst the winner of the batting tankard made his top score on the first day of the season we were waiting until the last day of the season before the winner took 8 for 26, five of his wickets were bowled, two lbw and one caught behind against Lowerhouse on the 8th of September at Ramsbottom, the winner of the bowling tankard was Jack Wynn of Ramsbottom. There is a tankard awarded to the wicket keeper with most victims and this year we had 2 wicket keepers with 4 victims twice in matches. Dennis Louis took four, home and away against Church for Crompton and Chris Burton four took at Norden and Ramsbottom. The Bill Harrison Trophy goes to the best performance by an Under 23 player in a match and it was decided that the outstanding bowling performance on the last day of the season merits receipt of the award this year and therefore Jack Wynn of Ramsbottom took the award for his 8 for 26. Final mention for individual achievement goes to two of our current senior players who were selected for the England Over 60’s tour to Australia which involved 3 one day internationals, our congratulations go to Chris Dearden of Littleborough and John Punchard of Crompton. Since the tour John has also been elevated to Captain of the England Seniors team. Mr Barry Evans again continued as Umpire Appointments Officer and again did a fine job with assistance from his Secretary, Mrs Evans. Many thanks to both. This year the umpires were again marked on Play Cricket with captains
