LCL Handbook 2024 72 batting last becomes entitled to receive less than 20 overs, either Captain shall have the right to continue with the match on the basis that (a) their opponents’total can be passed within the overs to be received or (b) their opponents can be totally dismissed within the number of overs to be bowled. Thus it is possible for a definite result to be achieved in a match where the side batting second becomes entitled to receive less than 20 overs. The side batting second and electing to chase the 20-over target as calculated by the average run rate method in fewer than 20 overs will lose the match if it is bowled out for less than the said target score or otherwise fails to achieve that score but will be entitled to bonus points as per Rule 11. The side bowling second electing to attempt to bowl out their opponents if fewer than 20 overs will lose the match if their opponents achieve the said target score or if it fails to bowl out their opponents but will be entitled to bonus points as per Rule 11. In either of the above circumstances, should there be a further suspension of play during this stage of the game it will end as an uncompleted game and 5 points will be awarded to each team. (h) Any over not completed whether (i) through injury to the bowler, (ii) by reason of their damaging the pitch, or (iii) by their persistent bowling of fast, short pitched balls, shall be completed by another bowler. (i) It is expected that at least 16 overs per hour shall be bowled in every match under the jurisdiction of the League. The League Executive reserves the right to call any club to explain the reasons if it fails to achieve this expectation. (j) If a start is delayed by weather a match shall not commence after 3.20 pm as the minimum 20 overs per side will not be possible. 5. BADWEATHER AND DRAWS The captains shall decide as to the fitness of the ground for the commencement of a match. In the event of their disagreement a majority of the captains and umpires shall decide, and should disagreement still continue the match shall then be abandoned. When a match has been commenced and then stopped by rain the question of the resumption of play shall be decided by the Umpires only. During the Match the Umpires shall be in complete control deciding all questions relating to the fitness of the ground, weather and light for play without the need for consultation with any other party.
