Alliance Midweek Cricket League Handbook 2014

3 George Kempton Mick Windle The League sadly lost two long standing members of its Management Commi8ee during 2013. The deaths of George Kempton and Mick Windle have made it four members of the Commi8ee that have sadly passed away in the last three years following on from Ron Birch in 2011 and Ian Shackleton in 2012. George and Mick both joined the Management Commi8ee in 1989. George was actually co-opted at that year’s Hand- book mee7ng. He was a stalwart to his death of Frecheville Community Cricket Club and was instrumental in offering his club’s services to the League, in par7cular for Management Commi8ee and the Handbook meet- ings. He always provided a lively input to the mee7ngs and was a nat- ural choice for President following the death of Ron. Unfortunately, his tenure lasted just over a year and he passed away following a short illness last May. Mick Windle was a very ac7ve member of the Commi8ee being the first to volunteer whenever special du7es were required. He o'en sat on the Discipli- nary Commi8ee and acted as chairman on the very few occasions that Tony has not been present. He was on our um- pires list from its very first year and con7nued to umpire in the League, al- most represen7ng the umpires unoffi- cially on the Commi8ee, right through to the very end of last season. We thought a couple of years ago Mick had managed to win his ba8le with cancer and was leading a normal life but sadly he relapsed late last year and passed away at the be- ginning of this year Words cannot express how both these two gents to the wonderful game of Cricket will be missed. The game is cer- tainly a poorer place without them.
