Alliance Midweek Cricket League Handbook 2015
25 Division A Hollinsend Methodists, needing to win their final fixture to secure promotion, lost disappointingly to local rivals Frecheville. This secured promotion and the Division A title for Frecheville. Even worse was to follow for Hollinsend. TOA finished level on points with Hollinsend and promotion was decided on run-rate, as both teams have identical win/loss records. TOA had the superior record and slid up into the top division. These three teams stood out from the crowd, but at the other end, Caribbean had another poor season and were relegated again. Millhouses Works also go down a division. Frecheville’s Todd Saxelby had a fine season, hitting 313 runs at 31.3 and also hit highest score in the division with 91 against TOA. Both Imran Zafar of Nether Edge and Richard Wadsworth of Hollinsend took 20 wickets in their contrasting styles. Imran securing his wickets at a touch over 10 runs apiece and took a wicket for almost every over bowled. The best individual figures were a remarkable 6 for 4 in 4 overs by Lasith Nuranga De Silva for University Staff against Hollinsend – and yet still ended on the losing side! Behind them, a season long dogfight ensued, with Outokumpo and Abbeydale finishing level on points, so as in Division A, the second promotion place was decided on net run rate. Abbeydale had just the better record and so were promoted. Relegated were Brincliffe, whose only points came from games lost to the weather, and Telecom Sports. Outokumpo had some compensation for missing out on promotion in the form of Tom Starkes, who had a wonderful summer, hitting 426 runs at exactly 71, comfortably more than anyone else in the League, his 11 innings contained four 50s and a hundred – and the highest score throughout the League, hitting 110 not out against Telecom. Sharrow’s Saqib Shazad also made a ton – 102* against Brincliffe. Bowling honours went to Mark Downing of The Wednesday, who took 22 wickets at under 11. John O’Sullivan of De La Salle collected the best figures, with 6-23 against The Wednesday.
