Sheffield University Staff en- joyed a solid season to finish third, but below them there was a battle royale to stay in the Divi- sion. Sharrow needed a final day win against Hollinsend Methodists to avoid the drop and send Coal Aston down. Coal Aston re- sponded by leaving the League after just a single season. Hollinsend Methodists won just 2 matches all summer, but had some bad luck to lose out in several very close games. Meersbrook Meerkats also withdrew from the League partway through the season leaving 7 clubs playing 12 games. MARK SIMMERSON’S 2015 REVIEW Attock Dominate Again T here was little doubt to the team of the year. After relin- quishing their title in 2014, Attock again dominated the Pre- mier Division. Their winning mar- gin over second placed Sheffield Collegiate was a substantial 7 points, winning 10 games and being beaten just once. Their batting, led by Arsalan Mir, was formidable. Arsalan hit 426 runs at an average of over 85, with Di- vision’s only ton – 109 not out against Frecheville. Arsalan also led a solid bowling unit, but the leading wicket taker was Sheffield Collegiate’s Ben Field- ing, with an excellent haul of 23 wickets from only 33 8-ball over at a shade under 12 apiece. If Attock were dominant, Sheffield Collegiate faced a concerted chal- lenge for second spot from Darnall, Sheffield Waterworks and Khan. All had very similar records, which possibly allowed At- tock to dominate as no sin- gle challenger emerged through the season. At the foot of the table, Frecheville, continuing their usual policy of fielding a young side, finished plumb bottom, a point behind Kashmir. Both sides have yo yoed between the Premier Division and Division A in recent seasons and will most likely continue to do so. TOA fin- ished just clear of the drop zone, mainly thanks to beating both teams who finished below them. They only lost their 100% record on the very final game of the season, well after their title had been confirmed. Sheffield Friends cemented their return to Premier Division with a win in their final game.
