Sheffield Alliance Midweek Cricket League Handbook 2016
21 Millhouses Works Show Bouncebackability T hree sides controlled the Division. Leading the way were Millhouses Works. hey won 10 games, losing just 3. Veteran Richard Everitt cracked 425 runs at nearly 71, with a top score of 106 not out against Norton Woodseats. Second placed and also pro- moted were De La Salle. Just a point behind Millhouses Works, who won both head to head fix- tures, and a point clear of The Wednesday, who won one game less. De La Salle skipper Kieren O'Sullivan hit over 400 runs with a top score of 114 not out at Ridgeway. Rangy left arm seamer Gaz Hunt was the division’s leading wicket taker with 21, fol- lowed by fellow Salle bowlers Tim Venn and Kieren O’Sullivan, show- ing clearly where the strength of De La Salle’s challenge lay. The Wednesday can count them- selves unlucky to miss out on promotion. They got off to a poor start and lost three games to the weather, but it was their double losses to rivals De La Salle that proved pivotal. Outokumpo Stainless had a steady season, finishing com- fortably above Norton Wood- seats and Ridgeway. At the foot of the table, finishing well adrift were Lodgers and Caribbean Sports, the once mighty Premier Division side, who have slipped to the bottom division in little more than five short seasons. They secured the title in the penultimate week, but Telecom Sports needed a last round win against the perennial benthic Brincliffe to slip into the second promotion spot past newcomers Oughtibridge. Aviva had a solid season, but lost almost half their games – too many to challenge the top three. It was a similar story for Wood- house. The young Hollinsend Methodists A performed creditably, as did Sheffield Transport, who brought on several young players – girls as well as boys. At the foot of the table – Brincliffe again. But this sea- son they did managed a win… Individual honours went elsewhere from the top two teams. Top run scorer was Craig Turner of Aviva. He hit 405 runs at 67.50, including a League top score of 122 not out against Sheffield Transport. Leading wicket taker was Oughtibridge’s Charlie King with 23 victims. However, the best figures in the entire League were a remark- able 5 for 5 taken by Telecom Sports Afzal Mohammed in their game with Aviva.
