Abbeydale and Frecheville Com- munity had to be content with mid-table obscurity, however Frecheville Community’s Todd Saxelby was the leading scorer with 358, which was also the top aggregate throughout the league. Sharrow’s Waqas Mah- mood hit the only Division A ton with 116 against De La Salle. Mohammed Rajeeb of Shar- row took most wickets with 17, best bowling figures went to Sheffield University Staff’s Spencer Sheppard, who ripped through De La Salle to record 7-20 from 4 overs and take the honours for the best return for the summer in the league. MARK SIMMERSON’S 2016 REVIEW Collegiate win on thrilling last day I n the closest finish for years, two teams – Sheffield Colle- giate and Darnall – went into the final round of matches dead level in terms of points, wins and losses. Sheffield Collegiate took on Khan in their final fixture and lost by one run. Meanwhile, Dar- nall took on TOA, who needed to win ensure they stayed in the Premier Division. An anaemic bowling performance from Dar- nall saw TOA win at a canter. So, with both Sheffield Collegiate and Darnall losing, the title would be decided on run-rate…. …and after frantic calculations and checking of calculations, Sheffield Collegiate were awarded the Premier Division championship by 0.02 or approx- imately 28 runs over the entire season. Khan finished a very re- spectable third, just two points behind the lead- ers and well clear of At- tock in fourth. TOA and Sheffield Waterworks needed late season wins to be certain of Premier Division in 2017, so it was Nether Edge that were rel- egated, as were Sheffield Friends, who can gain some solace in the batting of Jhonny Younis, who was the division’s leading run scorer with 313. Plaudits for the highest individual score goes to Will Hale of Sheffield Water- works with 112 against Sheffield Friends. Hamzah Younis also hit a ton – 102* for Khan against TOA. Leading wicket taker was Aamir Ashfaque of Darnall with 18 wickets, whilst Hamzah You- nis showed all-round skills to record the division’s best figures – taking 5-17 off Sheffield Wa- terworks. So, as in the Premier Di- vision, at was down to run rate. Sharrow had the better and up to Premier Division. Remarkably, at the foot of the table, Sheffield University Staff and De La Salle also finished with identical records, so again run-rate de- cided the issue, with Salle hav- Division A Final Table 2016 Team P W L C LCNWCN T Pts Kashmir............... 14 7 2 5 0 0 0 26 Sharrow............... 14 7 3 4 0 0 0 25 Hollinsend Meths 14 7 3 4 0 0 0 25 Frecheville Comm 14 6 4 4 0 0 0 22 Abbeydale........... 14 6 4 4 0 0 0 22 Sheff Uni Staff..... 14 3 7 4 0 0 0 13 De La Salle.......... 14 3 7 4 0 0 0 13 Millhouses Works 14 0 9 5 0 0 0 5 Bowling Wicketkeeper Bilal Khan (Nether Edge) 14 (4 Catches, 10 Stumpings) PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS
