Sheffield Alliance Midweek Cricket League Handbook 2017

21 Killamarsh Juniors Unbeaten Return K illamarsh Juniors took the title and completed their first season back in the League undefeated - and in doing so became the first team, along with Sheffield Transport in Division C, in the League go through a season unbeaten for 4 years. Norton Woodseats finished sec- ond, these two finishing well clear of Outokumpo Stainless in third. The Wednesday ended a comfortable fourth, just ahead of Telecom Sports and Lodgers. Ridgeway and Sharrow II finished well adrift of the rest of Division B, Sharrow II sadly strug- gling to turn out sides in the second half of the sea- son. Coupled with the fact that Sharrow II having 6 games out of 14 can- celled due to the weather, more than any other side in a particularly wet sum- mer, it made a season to forget for them. Top run scorer in Divi- sion B was Imran Khan of The Wednesday with 288, whilst the highest innings played was a 104 not out by Chris Millard of the Lodgers. The Wednesday’s reliable Mark Downing snaffled 16 victims to head the division’s wicket takers, whilst best bowl- ing figures were returned by Shadab Ahmed of Telecom Sports, who took a remarkable 5-5 against Outokumpo Stain- less. They won Division C by a single point from Sheffield Transport, who actually went through the sum- mer unbeaten – a tremendous performance. Hollinsend Methodists II, Aviva and Wood- house enjoyed solid, if unspec- tacular season’s, whereas Oughtibridge, having played so well in 2015 and just missing out on promotion, found the going much tougher in 2016. Craig Turner of Aviva hit 345 to head up the run scorers and David Royal of Hollinsend Methodists II, took the most scalps, with 11 wickets and also turned in the best figures with 5- 9. Finally, what of Brincliffe? Well, they exceeded their record of a single win in 2015…but not in the right direction - by finishing winless. No matter, because as always, they played with a smile and real enjoyment, proof that cricket is but a game and the im- portance lies in the pleasure of taking part.
