Frecheville Community had some consolation as Todd Saxelby topped the run scoring with 478 runs, whilst Ashley Naseby of The Wednesday had the highest individual score with 144 not out against the champions. Leading wicket taker was Noman Khan of Kashmir, the best bowling figures were for Ben Hattersley’s 6- 13 from 3 overs for Hollinsend Methodists against The Wednesday – a game in which Ben actually finished on the losing side. MARK SIMMERSON’S 2018 REVIEW Darnall win the League for first time U nder the blazing skies of the best summer for years, the Premier Divi- sion was one of the most closely fought in many seasons, with the title not being certainly de- cided until the very last round of matches. Darnall emerged as worthy winners, claiming more wins than any other team. They were closely pursued all season by Sheffield Collegiate, Attock and 2017 champs, TOA. Abbey- dale and Khan finished a re- spectable fifth and sixth, well clear of the bottom duo Nether Edge and Sharrow. In- deed, Sharrow won only a single match in the season. Michael Simp- son had the highest indi- vidual innings with his already legendary 237 not out against Khan. Those who saw the innings are still awed – especially as the bowling was more than useful! Not surprisingly, Michael scored most runs with 513. Best bowl- ing figures went to Mobashar Ilyas Raja of Attock, with 5-28 against Khan. Most wickets were secured by the left arm spin of Sheffield Collegiate’s Tom El- dred, with 18 victims.
