Strathmore Cricket Union Handbook 2001
5 batsmen repeatedly damage the pitch, waste time or deliberately run short. End of Match The batting side wins a match when its total passes that of the fielding side. If the batsmen complete what would be the winning run without dismissal and the ball subsequently goes to the boundary, only the completed runs count. If the ball reaches the boundary before the winning run is completed, the whole boundary award will be credited. Boundaries The ball needs only to touch the boundary line for the award to be made. Fieldsmen may no longer lean on a boundary fence to make a catch as they are deemed to be outwith the field of play. Any ball which hits a sightscreen, even if it is entirely within the boundary line will be judged to have crossed the boundary and if it hits any part of the screen on the full, it will count as six. No Ball and Wide The penalty for either will be one penalty run in addition to any runs scored from the delivery. The penalty run is not credited to the batsman but it and any other runs scored are debited to the bowler. Where a ball comes to rest in front of the striker, it is now a no ball and may not be played by the batsman. Caught A batsman can be caught if the ball hits the bat or any part of the glove on the hand holding the bat. Dangerous Bowling Any delivery other than a slow one which passes on the full above waist height is unfair. Any slow delivery which passes above shoulder height is similarly unfair. The result is a No Ball. If the umpire judges that the high-pitched ball was deliberate, he will instruct the captain to take the bowler off and have the over completed by another player if necessary. I hope that this brief summary is of use but would suggest that all players make themselves acquainted with the 2000 Code and its interpretation. There are several excelent books on the subject and each club would be well-advised to invest in one. Scoring will become much more important with the advent of these changes so be prepared!
