Strathmore Cricket Union Handbook 2003

26 Explanatory Notes to the EGM Proposals Amalgamation Senior officials from the Union Committee have met their counterparts from the Perthshire Cricket League twice since our AGM. Our discussions have led to the proposals before you. The Perthshire Cricket League has held an EGM and voted for amalgamation. It should be stressed that the only changes are (1) the name of our organisation, and, initially for our teams currently in Division 1, (2) the start time (3) perhaps the division in which you play, (4) some different teams to play and venues to visit and (5) the ball you play against sometimes. In all other respects the Union is unchanged. All playing conditions remain unchanged as agreed at our 2002 AGM. The Union Committee can see only benefits from increasing the number of clubs and teams playing cricket in the Union. We also feel that junior cricket win benefit by the amalgamation. Both organisations wanted to retain their name in the new organisation as a reminder of their previous existence. The proposed name seemed a suitable compromise. The new organisation would come into being during the 2003 AGM in November. It is to be hoped that our combined organisation may give us more bargaining power in attracting an improved sponsorship deal. League Structure The rationale for doing this now is that teams in the Union Division 1 and in the Perthshire League will know what is at stake during season 2003. The placing of Cupar XI, Perthshire XI & Rossie Priory in the new structure will depend on their finishing position in the Perthshire League in 2003. Cupar CC & Perthshire CC will need to decide if they will field 2 or 3 teams in the new structure. It is envisaged that games in the new Division 1 will take place mainly on Saturdays. Games in the new Divisions 2 & 3 will take place on either Saturday or Sunday depending on ground availability. Continued from page 17
